A Sort of NerdCore Homecoming with Doug Funnie
This week on the show is the one and only Doug Jason Funnie. With Joe Tacke tweaking the knobs and Zach Zanetich sitting in and taking notes I had the whole crew in tow. Thank goodness I did. At the middle break everything shut down and I feared I had lost the first half hour of dialogue. Having an audio engineer on hand, Joe along with Zach found the file and we were able to rescue the audio. With that in mind most of the conversation revolves around Doug Funnie (Nerdcore) newest album Homecoming. The show kicks off with Gotta Go. We talk about the first album Where is Doug Funnie?, and how our hero is on the lamb at the end of the album. The newest album is a continuation and we find Doug still on the run. We talk about the story line, some characters and the musical styles represented. We talk about Nerdcore as a genre and try and find the roots of it. MC Frontalot is in the conversation as to who the godfather of Nerdcore may be and is featured on the middle track called Need Your Help. We also talk about ( or attempt to ) the differences between Dallas Fort Worth and Denton when it comes to hip hop, nerdcore, or rap. I share a little about Saturday night at the Cellar Fort Worth, get into a weird metaphysical loop (we're all connected man) and just generally had a blast on this one. Doug Funnie is a fantastic rapper, an excellent writer, creative genius when it comes to mixing video game music with his tunes, and the last song we play wraps up who he is and what he is about. It is called Homecoming and I know you will dig it. You can find all his albums at https://dougfunnie.bandcamp.com/
