Music, News and Wiener Dog Races with Steve Watkins
The show kicks off this week with Blank-Men Radio Silence and then Zach Danger (Eagle Bones)and I sit and chat with Steve Watkins. Steve Watkins writes local concert reviews for DFW.com. You have probably read his stuff at some point. I thought it would be cool to have someone on who reviews local shows, but Steve is much more than that. He is a photographer, a journalist and a really interesting dude to sit and chat with. We start off local with some history and he talks about the coffee shop on Berry he used to own and some of the folks that came through playing music. We have a great talk about how much we miss The Frisky Disco and how important their scene was along with Animal Spirit, The Breakfast Machine, and Panic Volcanic. We talk about Gollay, KatsüK and an interesting conversation about activism and music. The middle track is by Mountain Kid called Kallipolis and the second half of the show we go more national, global even, and we talk politics, religion and wiener dog races! Seriously the second half was so much fun for me. I don't do it to often but we hit it all. Hillary Clintons email, #47traitors, OU, gay marriage, christianity, the Pope, and of course the upcoming presidential election. Then an awesome story about a trip he took with Sharon Pate to see dachshund races. We also spent time on photography as well but not as much as it deserved but this thing is already 2 hours. Check out Steves page Panther City Visual Arts. He does amazing work, both with local bands and street art. Both digital and film. Steve is a really cool cat and I think you are going to enjoy hearing him on the show. Thanks so much for listening!! The closing track is Error of Metabolism Bike Chain
