Wednesday Apr 11, 2018
Wednesday Apr 11, 2018
This week its The Me-Thinks! That is all I should have to say. What else do you need? Of course we played songs. Joe Tacke, Zach Zanetich and I each picked one. You will have to listen to hear which ones are our personal favorites. Trucker Jon couldn't make it but we do have Ray Liberio, Marlin (Chris Lundy) and Brother Trashpokets (Brandon Brauer). This was awesome for all of us. We have wanted to have these guys on for some time now. We are big big fans of this band. We get alot of info out of them. Early influences, life before the Me Thinks (pre thinks), early shows and venues, high school life, Me Thinks Vs Haltom city and so much more. We throw everything at them. Zah Libs, Flash taco, fishing talk, Law Hawk, shoe talk, women and pain, the We Thinks, She Thinks and a new record. Thats all the tease you get this week. There is to much. Listen!! You will be glad you did. If you dont know this band, you must you must you must increase you music collection to add these boys.

Matt Sacks in The Grackle, Spoken Word and Easter
Tuesday Apr 03, 2018
Tuesday Apr 03, 2018
This weeks guest is Matt Sacks. Matt Sacks is the owner and managing director at The Grackle Art Gallery. I haven't meet Matt before or been to The Grackle so I got to find out all kinds of cool stuff about him and interesting events happeening at The Grackle. Instead of music this week we have original spoken word from Matt. The opening is called Easter Bunny Vol. 1 After the open my apologies to The Me-Thinks. We start off with spoken word talk. A good place to see and do spoken word is The Dock Bookshop on Tuesday nights and/or the last Wednesday of the month at The Grackle. Who influences Matt? What inspires him? Whats the difference between poetry, prose and spoken word? How do you submit art to the Grackle? What kind of musical acts does The Grackle look for? Is The Grackle a place to buy and sell art? All these questions and much more are answered as well as some cool events you can see coming up like the Vagina Monologues, Acoustic Doom and Renegade Voices. Plus pin hole camera talk. Second poem- Third Arm and then we have Zachlibs. Then we go for it and talk about Easter, Respect, Tolerance, Compassion, Social Media and change. We don't only talk problems but offer solutions to fear and lonliness. Then Zach goes on a rant about Nutrition and goverment healthcare. If you can make sense of it send us an email at funkytownpodcast@gmail.com
The show concludes with Easter goals and one last poem called Vagina. As always

Bryan Wilson Law Hawk
Tuesday Mar 27, 2018
Tuesday Mar 27, 2018
Bryan Wilson "The Texas Law Hawk" brings his talons of justice to One Horn Studios. I repeat. Bryan Wilson is this weeks guest on the show and he was greatness! If you're not familiar with the Law Hawk, then you should hear this episode and if you are familiar with him then you are probably half way through already. Bryan is from Fort Worth and attended Paschal High School, which is where my daughter is going next year, and after a couple of crazy videos shot in Austin Tx he decided to do a Fort Worth centric video that went viral. If you have seen one of his videos you have probably seen this one, his 3rd one. He got some awards and accolades and even did a couple of Taco Bell commercials for the Super Bowl. His commercials are wild, loud and bombastic. A total blast to watch. See Bryan crash through glass on motor cycles, jet ski jumps, body slam a Christmas table, light himself up covered in firecrackers, all while giving you important legal advice. Ok so back to the show. The opening track is from The Me-Thinks called Texas Gigolo. The person in this songs will probably need to call the Law Hawk after getting pulled over with a beer bong. We talk to Bryan about his videos. Who writes them, shoots them, if they are homemade, where the idea came from, how other lawyers respond. Speaking of other lawyer we also talk about some of the pioneers before him like the Long Arm of the Law and the Texas Hammer. We find out how easy it is to have your 4th amendment rights violated and what you should do when pulled over. The middle track is from Joe Savage "No Fear". After the break we talk sword laws, knife laws, and gun laws. We have some question from fellow podcaster Dustin. He has some interesting questions about open container laws, weed laws, nudity laws and State Law vs Federal Law. Seriously you guys this show is fun, interesting and very informative. I hope none of you ever need a lawyer for criminal law or personal injury but if you do, here is a local guy who is very creative, smart and good at what he does. If you need justice he has the talons for it! "Due Process!? Do wheelies!!" Bryan Wilson The closing track is Mucho Mango from the Longshots. You can watch all the videos here https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC5yF5BzhuXZOWioE3HywPnw

Manana Cowboy Dreaming
Tuesday Mar 20, 2018
Tuesday Mar 20, 2018
On this episode we have 3/5ths of Manana Cowboy. Houston Holtman, Adam Horvath and Wendy Mills join Zach, Joe and I in One Horn Studios as we cast some punny pod. The opening track is called Arkansas which led us down a rabbit hole right off. We get back on track and talk new band mates and a new album coming out soon. Album release date is June 9! So we can an early peak into some of the songs. We talk about some past shows and great places to play. Learn where the album was recorded, how long it took to write and a little about Wendy. Houston is the man behind House of the Rising Thumb. Local music house shows. Great space and great times. The middle track is If Only You. Its a wonderful song that I can't seem to get the name right. We play some Zach Libs that involves Space Crappie (possible band name or song here. You're Welcome). We talk some SXSW, building implosions and have a heated debate over milkshakes with dinner. This was a fun episode to make and the cast of characters are crazy cool. Follow Manana Cowboy on Facebook, Bandcamp or just around town. They like stalkers. You can find them April 20 (420) at 515 Bar and April 21 at Dreamy Life and again at House of the Rising Thumb. The closing track is a preview of things to come and I really like it. Its my favorite of the three and its called Dreaming.

The Gang Barrages Garage Barrage's Garage
Wednesday Mar 07, 2018
Wednesday Mar 07, 2018
This! This! This! If you listen to anything make it this. I am not even sure how to explain whats happening here. You may want to go back a few episodes and listen to the second half of Future Funkytown Federation of Furries to get some context. Garage Barrage is a band consisting of Ian McKenyon (Guitar Keys and Vocals) Ranger Parrish (Drums) and Jon Lanier (Bass). Just three dudes who hang out on Friday night in Ians garage drinking beer, doing impromtu jams and awsome covers. Why do they do this? Because it is fun! Thats it. They have a good time, put it on bandcamp and go back to work and living life. Its awsome to me. They invited us (Joe Tacke, Zachary Zanetich, Susie Ramone and Rebekah Elizabeth) out to the garage to experience the magic first hand. The first song they played was MC Demo Reel. (Rebekah Elizabeth's favorite) but it didn't record so I put the bandcamp version up in its place. Then we have some interview, some live music and more interview and more live music. This isn't our typical format so listen all the way to the end. It's not over till it's over. I did get some digital noise on the recorder. I am not sure where it was coming from but I think I did a good job putting it way in the background. The music was recorded live by Ian and sent over to me. I put my interviews in with his music. This, I believe, will also be released on bandcamp. (music only) so check out there bandcamp for this and may other great releases. https://garagebarrage.bandcamp.com/
This is the most fun we have had doing a show in quite some time. I really hope you enjoy it as much as we did recording it. The songs we did here live is Battle F**K, Holler, Sorrow, Birthday song (for Zach) and then Joe, Zach and Rebekah joined Ranger and Jon for an amazing version of I Only Want You (EODM). Seriously this isn't something to miss!

WREX
Tuesday Feb 27, 2018
Tuesday Feb 27, 2018
Wrex is a local rapper/ hip hop artist. A Fort Worh Weekly Music Award Nominee and performer at Arts Google and a lot of you are familiar with him. I wasn't. That is until i was going through Bandcamp and came across his Winter EP. The opening track on the EP, and the opening track for the show, is called Burning Sage. This plus the tag hippie hop had me interested. As soon as I started playing the track and listening to the lyrics I knew we had to have this guy on. He couldnt have been a better guest. We talked about hip hop culture and trying to play the game but remain authentic to self. It is interesting to compare it to other forms of music and the game being played in the industry. Being a hippie at heart but a rapper by trade Wrex finds himself in a weird place. The thing I like most about Wrex is his lyrics. Being a hippie type myself I can relate more to his brand of rap more than most. I especially like the struggle and loneliness in the middle track called Bartender/Splilling Drinks. Zachary is out this week with Rebekah Elizabeth for her birthday. Happy Birthday Rebekah. Susie Ramon couldn't make it either. RIP Mama Cass. Joe Tacke is here though and even jumps in the interview with some really good questions. (Not that I am suprised) Wrex's Winter Ep is a concept of sorts and he will release one for each season this year with Winter being the first. I think he did a great job with this EP and look forward to some spring sounds soon. (I think April) We also talk about old school rap, rock and rap combos, flu conspiracy and much much more. He was fun to have on and I am already looking forward to having him back on for the Spring or Summer release and we will go deep for sure. Check out this dude. He is true to himself and his true self is pretty freaking awesome. You dig? The last track we play is F Society featuring Dru B Shinin' You can get the EP for 5 buck on bandcamp https://sagemodewrex.bandcamp.com/

Anything is Posival
Tuesday Feb 20, 2018
Tuesday Feb 20, 2018
This weeks guest are the guys from Posival (Pause-eh-vol). Michael Posival, Adrian Radons and Colin join Joe, Zach and I and we have a great time getting to know each other. Michael has brand new bandmates and a new album coming out soon called Opposite Day. The opening track to the show this week is off of that album and its titled Sheets. We talked about Whiskeyboy Radio and Michaels apperance on there some 2-3 years ago. Michael is also in the Delzells and played a show with Mean Motor Scooter Friday night and we all shared a space but didn't know each other yet. Not sure how we missed that one. Colin and Adrian also play in another band called Ded-Suns. Did you hear that the Live oak is turning into the Fairmount Music Hall? Did you hear about what happened at the Bearded Lady? Did you know Zach is a master at the Hula Hoop? The middle track is also off of the upcoming album and its called Pansy. We do Zach libs and I think we found some people who have never heard of Mad Libs before. we also talk about living and playing in Denton, Noise Rock, do fish feel pain and pets vs food. We were kinda all over the place this week but we had such a good time with the boys from Posival. You can see their first offical show April 13 and look for the album to come out in March. In the mean time you can hear a preview and hear past stuff here. https://posival.bandcamp.com/ The last track is a nice acoustic track called Trails.

Signals and Alibis Remixed
Tuesday Feb 13, 2018
Tuesday Feb 13, 2018
This weeks guest is Signals and Alibis. Rebecca Jozwiak and Brian Carter join myself, Joe Tacke and Zachary Zanetich in One Horn Studios for a great get to know each other conversation. If you have been paying attention to local music over the last several years, you have probably heard or at least heard of Signals and Alibis. They are really very very cool. The opening track is a remix Black Mold (from Looks Like Rain) It's mood and chill and I love it. We immediately get to know the band. How they got started, how they evolved and how Rebecca got involved. Did you know there was such a thing as Adult Kick Ball Leagues? Where did the name come from? We got the answer. Influences, songwriting, lyrics. Check. One band in particular has had a major influence on the band. One of the members of the influental band remixed our middle track. You'll have to listen to find out who? The middle track is called Monstrous Whores. After the break we read an email from someone who may or may not be a real person. We have Zach Libs, Olympic talk and we found out what lies in the future for Signals and Alibis. You can get the Remix album and the original album on Spotify, Apple Music and of course bandcamp. https://dreamyliferecords.bandcamp.com/album/looks-like-rain-the-supernova-remixes Twitter https://twitter.com/signals_alibis?lang=en
The last track is I'll Stay. Its the original recording off of Looks Like Rain.
