Animal Spirit This Is Relevant
Monday Feb 20, 2017
Monday Feb 20, 2017
Animal Spirit dropped a brand new album Saturday, played a great show at Lolas Saturday night and we were lucky to have them on the show the next day. We open the show with Creatures of Habit. We talk with Andrew Stroheker, Parker Anderson and Zach Tucker about the new album This Is Relevant, their album release shows and the growth of the band. The middle song we jam is Doom Surf and then jump into, head first, Zach Libs. We have another installment of Questions with other Podcast with the spot light on Off Radar Podcast. We close the show out with the title track This Is Relevant. The album is great. I love jamming it. Its a bigger, fuller, mature and "More Better" album. My love for this band goes back before the podcast. The very first song you hear on the very first podcast is Animal Spirit. This band has been a part of the podcast for the last 3 years and I was so excited to finally get them in studio with Joe Tacke, Zachary Zanetich. Its a fun conversation and I cant wait for you to hear it. You can pick up the new album for $7.00 on bandcamp. Thats a price of a pack of American Spirits. So trade the American Spirits for some Animal Spirit and jam on!

Welcome Back Road Soda!
Monday Feb 13, 2017
Monday Feb 13, 2017
Todd Klepacki a.k.a The Road Soda comes back to town and back on the show. The opening track is called Champagne Steve. Armed with voice, guitar, a bass drum with one foot, and a snare drum with the other the Road Soda is a one man band and a Fort Worth treasure. These days Road Soda spends his days in Chicago but he is back in town for a few and we are lucky to have him on. Even though he doesn't currently reside in our fair town, he still influences our scene for the better. Good Dude. We spend the first half of the show catching up, talking about Chi Town, and music evolving into a more socially conscious vehicle. The middle track is Swagger. We have a sort of gruesome Zach Libs and audition a new bit. Road Soda was a good sport as we played Questions from Other Local Podcast with this weeks spotlight being on the Jerry Jonestown Massacre. He (RS) sat with a grin on his face and a question mark above his head but played along and had a good time doing it. I really like Todd. He's a really good guy, with amazing talent and a heart of gold. Check out the facebook page. The last song is 96 feelings. You can find all of these tracks off of Coupe de Cool. http://loliferecordings.com/album/coup-dcool
If that isn't enough for you, might I suggest a little Jack Thunder with your Road Soda. You can get the JT&RS album here https://dreamyliferecords.bandcamp.com/album/jt-rs

Big! Red! Ants!
Tuesday Feb 07, 2017
Tuesday Feb 07, 2017
This week Big Red Ants stop by One Horn Studios to chat with Joe Tacke and yours truly. Zachary Zanetich is M.I.A. The opening track is Give It Some Time. It's off of their album Last Years Big Fall. This is a bluesy, gritty, modern rock band with a classic feel. The interesting thing is that Big Red Ants are very young, but you wouldn't know it by their sound. I really had a good time sitting with the boys. We talked about the beginning of the band and where they are now and how they are evolving. The second track is proof of a Big Red Ants 2.0 or V2 and its called Oswald. Nathan Alec-Guitar/Vocals, Ian Brothers-Drums, Aaron Payton-Bass, and (not present)Ayden Trammell-Guitar make up the band. They were super cool and really fun to hang out with. I can't wait to see them play again soon. I also can't wait to see where they are in a couple of years. I highly suggest you seeing them as soon as you can. You can also pick up Last Years Big Fall here https://bigredants.com/album/350494/last-year-s-big-fall?autostart=true
The closing track is the title track Last Years Big Fall. I really dig these boys and I think if you give them a chance you will too. Long Live the Big Red Ants!

Flip and the Combined Effort
Wednesday Jan 25, 2017
Wednesday Jan 25, 2017
Flip and the Combined Effort swing by One Horn Studios for a conversation with Joe Tacke, Zach Zanetich and myself. The opening track is Sphere of Living and I'm glad to have some more Ska on the show. Flip and the Combined Effort is fronted by Felipe (Flip) Rosales who drums for Svenny Baby. As a matter of fact if you take Svenny Baby and add Nikolas Hale, Justin Talamantez and John Gulick on horns. Add Alexis Randolph on drums you have the combined effort. We couldn't fit all those folks in One Horn so we spoke with Flip, Justin and Nick about all things music, the Womens march, the inauguration, teaching the kiddos and going home. The middle track is an instrumental piece called Cooper. Of course we have have Zach Libs and more conversations. They have a new album coming out in a few days. So keep on the look out for that. The last track is called My Trips Home (Are Never a Vacation) Find them here https://flipandthece.bandcamp.com/releases

Magnolia Boutique Hotel
Sunday Jan 22, 2017
Sunday Jan 22, 2017
The proposed boutique hotel on Magnolia has caused quite a stir over here in the Near SouthSide area. So much so that the Ed Brown from the Fort Worth Weekly wrote an article about it and then got brave and came back to do another LowDown with Ed Brown. These mini episodes are normally a quick half hour but with a topic that really shapes the neighborhood, for better or worse, we spend a little more time on it. We look at both sides of the argument and talk about where the area has come from and where its going and exactly what that means for the people who have made Fairmount what it is. We recorded the show at Hop Fusion and with the beer flowing and crazy karaoke we had a conversation, I am sure, many of you have had. There is lots of good info in here I hope you enjoy the listen and if you want to make yourself heard... Jan 24th...let the council know if you are pro or anti. In the meantime educate yourself and talk to your neighbors.

Joe Savage So High
Tuesday Jan 17, 2017
Tuesday Jan 17, 2017
Joe Savage is back after a year and brings us some New Year goodies in the form of 3 new songs. The first song is So High. This is the 3rd time Joe has been on the show and his songwriting has constantly improved. He writes country from the old shcool but updated. Its ripe with temptation, struggle and the human condition. The middle track Boat Club Road is another good example, as is the last track My First Tokes. All 3 songs are! Listen and you will agree, plus you will find Joe charming and very passionate. Its always awesome when he swings by One Horn Studios to hang out with Joe Tacke, Zachary Zanetich and myself. We have Zach Libs and a great conversation. Pull up a chair, grab some sweet tea and stay awhile. You can find Joe Savage's fine work from his album Songs worth Singing here https://joesavage.bandcamp.com/releases #suckitstubbs #loveyoumeanit

Jay Wilkinson Potty Mouth
Monday Jan 09, 2017
Monday Jan 09, 2017
Visual Artist Jay Wilkinson stops by One Horn Studios to kick off the new year with Joe Tacke, Zachary Zanetich and myself. The show kicks off with Son of Stan's Corsica and then we jump into it. The first half is some weather and traffic (wink) and then a lot of art talk. From New Years Eve, to his residency and Arts Goggle. The middle track is called Preacher's Dead by Charley Crockett and its a good bluesy number. The second half is Zach Libs and bathroom talk. Jay is awesome. Easy to talk to and so much fun to hang out with. The conversation is about an hour and goes by so fast. I so didn't want it to be over. We close out with a great track from Sur Duda It's Whatever. You'll enjoy this one for sure. Its a great way to kick off a brand new year of funkytownpodcast. #suckitstubbs

Best of Sort of
Monday Jan 02, 2017
Monday Jan 02, 2017
Top 5 Funkytownpodcast episodes of 2016. We did about 50 episodes last year and I get to pick my top 5. I won't tell you what they are, you'll have to listen. I will say I was in tears putting it together and then sat and made Lady Lord listen. She laughed for an hour straight. This really is one of my favorite hours I have put together. Whether you listen all the time or not at all, you will enjoy this one. Let's welcome in 2017 with a little reflection on 2016. This episode is brought to you by our friends at the Jerry Jonestown Massacre and Robotuners Isignificant Podcast. Happy New Years boys, and Shelly Heath and Susie Ramone! Much love!! Thanks for making 2016 an incredible podcast year. #suckitstubbs #suckitsusiie #2016 #2017 #neverjjtm #feelthefunk

Rocking Around Spirituality
Monday Dec 19, 2016
Monday Dec 19, 2016
Rock and Roll, Spirituality and Rev Paul Roach are 3 things that are synonymous. If I've ever know a Rock-n-Roll preacher this is him. So its only natural that he is writing a book that combines spiritual teaching using rock music as the teacher. Kinda. It's really cool what he is doing and I'll think you'll enjoy our discussion. You can find Paul at Unity Fort Worth and they have some amazing services coming up into the new year. http://unityfortworth.org/
It being Christmas and having Paul back for a 3rd Christmas in a row (can you san tradition?) we have more audio holiday cards and more great holiday tunes. We kick it off with “Bundle Up Baby Jesus” by Skagg Philips and the middle track is “Blue Christmas” by Nick and Paige. Both these and many other great songs can be found on Hand Drawn Records. A Compilation. Volume 4. The Holiday Record. http://www.handdrawnrecords.com/shop/a-compilation-volume-4-the-holiday-record-by-various-artists/
The final track is new holiday occurrence celebratory song from Robotuners' Isignificant Podcast and Merry Christmas to our friends at
