Carsie Blanton is So Ferocious
Tuesday Sep 20, 2016
Tuesday Sep 20, 2016
Sunday night at Lola's is where the podcast takes place this week. I have been a fan of Carsie Blanton for a few years and when I heard she was coming to Lola's I knew I had to be there. I then thought "I wonder if she'd let me interview her for the show?" This is different for me because I only have locals on the show but I couldn't pass up a chance to sit and hang with Carsie for a little bit. I sat and talked with her for about 30 minutes about her new record So Ferocious, her videos and New Orleans, falling in love, and haters. The show starts with the title track So Ferocious and then then we have the interview with live music from the show mixed in. I am really proud of this one. I think she is really interesting and a really good interview. Even if you don't know who Carsie Blanton is I really think you will enjoy this episode. Its a good interview with ambient noises and fantastic music. You can get music and find out more about Carsie at http://carsieblanton.com/
I am really grateful for the opportunity to do this show every week and the chance to meet really interesting people. I really appreciate you guys and gals listening.

Needle Drop, Live Podcast with I Happy Am
Monday Sep 12, 2016
Monday Sep 12, 2016
This week we find ourselves at Butlers Alley for the I Happy Am Needle Drop Party doing our first ever live Funkytownpodcast. It was fun despite the microphones not working. If you were there and weren't able to hear it or if you weren't there at all, this is a good recording of the interview. What we did was talk about every track in order and then opened it up for question from the audience. The whole thing is about 40 minutes so I started the show off with a throw back I Happy Am live recording from the Jerry Jonestown Massacre show from about a year or more ago.(The Prophet) It really shows how far the band has come. We end the show the same way with another song from the same session. (The Giant)
The idea was to have the album playing during the interview but due to technical issues we were not able to do that but in post we can. So the cool thing about this is you get to hear the songs we are talking about while we are talking about them. The is a great companion piece to the album. If you don't have the album, you will want it after hearing this and if you have the album this interview will give you a deeper understanding and connection to this fantastic record. At least that is our hope and intent. If you want the album you can get a digital download here http://www.ihappyam.bandcamp.com/
Big thanks to the "other me" James Zametz of Keep Fort Worth Funky for putting it on and Butlers Antique for hosting. Cub for the delicious bbq sammiches, Dustin Schneider, the JJTM crew and Robotuner for the support as well as Steve Watkins, John Erwin and John and Sally Rody. Thanks to Susie Ramone for being the beer wench and Kevin Geist for manning the door. Plus our family and friends! We love you. Thanks for an awesome Q&A everyone.(that wasn't nearly as crazy as I thought it'd be, however still a little chaotic) #suckitstubbs
I really think you'll enjoy this installment.
Thanks again everyone!!!

The Prophet, The Giant and the Invisible man, A Podcast with I Happy Am
Tuesday Sep 06, 2016
Tuesday Sep 06, 2016
The Prophet, The Giant and the Invisible Man an album by I Happy Am, is
the upcoming release from I Happy Am. Zachary Zanetich and Rebekah
Elizabeth finish their podcast tour here at One Horn Studio with Joe
Tacke and myself. The three songs this week are the three title tracks
from the upcoming album. The Prophet kicks it off and then we talk about
the "tour" and get into a really cool event coming up this Saturday
Sept. !0th at Butler Alley, put together by Keep Fort Worth Funky and
$10.00 gets you in and a CD, free beer and access to food, art and
games. Its a totally family friendly event and there will be a live
version of the podcast where we actually interview the band about the
album. The album is very interesting from song writing, to composition,
and album art, but we will get into that on Saturday. The middle track
is The Giant and has a spaghetti western, Ennio Morricone feel to it and
you will love it. We have a special Zach Libs this week, or should I
say Lords Libs? The second half we get into another really exciting
event coming up in October. It happens at Lolas on October 21st and
involves some sort of I Happy Am Super Group. You'll have to listen to
get all the details. The last track is the Invisible Man. The album will
be available September 10th and you will want to have a physical copy.
The music is fantastic in every sense of the word and the album art is
absolutely amazing. Just Brilliant!! Come get one Saturday but until
then enjoy some fun with I Happy Am.

Rachel Gollay Built For Love
Tuesday Aug 30, 2016
Tuesday Aug 30, 2016
Zachary Zanethich is out this week doing a podcast tour. You can hear him on last weeks Jerry Jonestown Massacre and this weeks Robotuner promoting the upcoming show and new record from I Happy Am. Let us not talk about those who aren't here but rather who is here. Who is here? The amazing Rachel Gollay. She came with her own unreleased new music. The first is a live acoustic track which is brand new and not yet heard on any media. It is called Rise and its amazing like you'd expect. The middle track is another brand new one and it's darker than your typical Gollay track and its called Another Life. This is a studio track. What are these songs for? Another album? EP? Listen to find out. Also find out if Rachel has pets, siblings or crazy dreams. What would her intro song be? This episode is chocked full of hard hitting questions just like those. We also talk about chickens, veganism and numerology. So yeah, you shouldn't miss this one. Its packaged at just barely over an hour and I am uncomfortable with time management. Joe Tacke keeps us in line at One Horn Studio. The last track is off of their album titled Built for Love and its called How Much Did That Cost? If you haven't heard the Gollay album please pick it up. Its really great and a wonderful listen. If you don't know Rachel hopefully after this you will a little better. You can find them on the interwebs so check them out! Also check out our friends JJTM Robotuner Intoxicated Gamer and Off Radar Podcast.

Better Now Acoustic
Monday Aug 22, 2016
Monday Aug 22, 2016
This week we have Better Now on the show. The cool thing about this is that they played 3 tracks live acoustic. You wont hear Better Now like this anywhere so tune in for some some sweet jams. We start off with A cute Puncture off of their new album Reasons I Can't Sleep. We have vocalist Lillian Cormack, vocalist/guitarist Louis Lopez and bassist Alex Weymier who plays guitar on these tracks. We open the show with robot talk, then get into their 10 day tour across this great nation of ours and we talk about some compilations they are on. They are a brand new band but are busy busy and have lots of stuff going on. The band is made up of song writing veterans from other bands you might recognize like the Buzzkills and Not Half Bad. The middle track is Cherry Apple Red and its off of their first EP Words and Wires. The second half starts with Zach Libs and we continue getting to know the band a little better. It was a great pleasure meeting Better Now and we truly (adverb) had a good time getting to know them. I think the music sounds really good this week and its cool to hear an electric "emo punk alternative" type band play their songs acoustic. The last track is the closer off of their latest called Whatever Whatever.

Huffer
Monday Aug 15, 2016
Monday Aug 15, 2016
Huffer is Chea Cuevas, Anthony Sosa and Jeremy Nelson. This is probably something I should've know before the interview. In my defense Zachary Zanetich had me preparing for a different guest and last minute tells me Chea is coming on from the Foo. So with 3 Huffer songs, the singer for Foo, the bass player from Raven Charter and some drummer, we begin the show. I figured out later rather than sooner that all 3 guys are in the same band. What a doofus. That is best local podcast worthy right there. #neverjjtm #feelthefunk #suckitstubbs Other than my confusion at the top the show, I think this is really good. We had a good time with these boys. We talked about Cheas' birthday bash at the Grotto, Sosas' Forth Worth Local Band History, and Jeremy talks song crafting. Zach is back so we have the Libs. We do a breakfast edition of flash taco and we discuss breakfast foods. I talk about my experience at the Jazz Cafe and Joe tells stories about his experience as well. The conversation is good, the music better. Like Huffer of the Facebooks, and check out their soundcloud. Most of all go to a show and pick up an album or a sweet Huffer shirt. The opening track is Never Know, the middle is Rhode Island, and we close out with Grounded. You can find all these tracks on their self titled (self pigeoned ) album.

Pokemon Go(ing) Crazy
Monday Aug 08, 2016
Monday Aug 08, 2016
Burn an incense and collect your balls its time to come with Joe Tacke and I as we hunt Pokemon while Susie Ramone follows us around asking questions, making observations and talking to random players on the street. Our adventure starts at the Boiled Owl and we head west down Magnolia towards Avocca and back up to the Chat room pub for a drink. After the break we hit downtown and Sundance Square. Its one of the most fun I have had podcasting! I hope you enjoy it as much as we did. Maybe you'll learn some tricks or maybe you'll just laugh at us as we stumble our way across town. Denver Williams Untitled
Monday Aug 01, 2016
Monday Aug 01, 2016
This week our super special guest is the super awesome Denver Williams. All three tracks this week are taken from a live set he did at the Dreamy Life Happy Hour. The opening track is a song written by Charles Marchbanks (bassist Chingalotus / Henry the Archer) called Post Modern Blues. The middle track is an unreleased untitled track and the last track is my favorite cover of a local artist by a local artist, Vincent Neil Emerson's Fool in the Mirror. We have a real casual conversation about rainbows, guitars experimentation, an upcoming project and Vienna Sausages! So join Zachary Zanetich, Joe Tacke and I as Rebekah Elizabeth sketches us while Denver looks lovingly into our eyes and dodges hard balls.

SoFar Sounds DFW
Monday Jul 25, 2016
Monday Jul 25, 2016
This weeks show is extra cool. We have on Anthony Najera (Tony) and Brittany Boaz from Sofar Sounds Dallas/Fort Worth. Saturday I attended a Sofar event right here in funkytown at the Westside Unitarian Universalist Church. The show kicks off today with a song from the Jenn Bosil called Alien. It's a live recording from the Sofar show on Saturday. We then talk about how awesome she was and what a great show it was. We also get into what Sofar is and some of the cool acts that have done it. We find out when and where it started. Want to attend a show? You can find out how. Want to host a show? Want to play a show? What kind of venues are these shows typically at? We answer lots of hard hitting questions. Matt Tedder is a Fort Worth local and also played the show on Saturday. I hadn't seen him before but this kid is great. He had a harmonica player with him named Paul who was also incredible. The middle track is also a song from Saturday called 1701 Blues. Zach Libs is back this week. Tony and Brittany were so great. Dustin and I had such an amazing time at the show on Saturday. The shows aren't always local acts. Actually they pull bands on tour that come through here to play. Its a great way to hear some new stuff. Jenn Blosil is from Utah and touring with the 3rd act from Saturday The National Parks, who are also from Utah. Blown away. Just fantastic. The last song they played was called Wind and Anchor. They wanted audience participation singing and the recording came out so good. It gives you chills to hear everyone singing along. It really was quite the experience. I really hope you get to see music in this intimate environment. Its almost a religious experience. Sofarsounds.com is where to start.

3 Guys a Girl and a Podcast
Monday Jul 18, 2016
Monday Jul 18, 2016
This week our guest cancelled so Rebekah Elizabeth joined us for some off the hip conversation. So naturally we spent an hour talking about Pokemon Go. Not really but it was discussed for your pleasure or disgust, you decide. ( As Robotuner would say) Other than naming evees and joining gyms we talked about the week I Happy am had. A Couple cool shows in a couple of cool places. Did you know that IHA is really close to having their new record drop? They have a sweet listening party coming up in September that involves us here at Funkytownpodcast and Keep Fort Worth Funky. Listen for details. (Sept. 10)
The opening track is Good Evening by Quaker City Nighthawks. What a perfect song to kick off the show and they did really well at the awards last week so...
We break with Andy Picketts' You Make Me Want to Die off of Group Therapy Vol 3. Dude! This guy and this song comes to you so I can tell you about a Dreamy Life sponsored event called Solidarity Fest. We spend a little bit after the song talking about it, letting you know when and where and who and why. (Hint its Saturday July 23 and there is 18 bands and its a great cause and free) We have no Zach Libs for you, but we do talk about award winning Mean Motor Scooter and another great show coming up in a couple of weeks put on by our friends the Jerry Jonestown Massacre at Lolas and it will be the Record Release and Tour kick off for the Phantom Sensation. There is also an announcement about a line up change in TPS. =( We got an email and we find out about Joes' weirdest place to come to while drunk. So there is that. The last track is by Movie the Band and called Buzzard Bay. Seriously all 3 songs this week are incredible. This one was fun and easy, and after a couple of hard and heavy weeks maybe you can take a break. Much love.
