Here's to you Katie Robertson
Monday May 25, 2015
Monday May 25, 2015
This week on the podcast we had the lovely and talented Katie Robertson. You may know her from Vanillaface Jones, Foxtrot Uniform, Chucho, or any other number of projects she is involved in around town. She was baffled as to why I wanted her on the show but as soon as you hear her start to sing Right Arm you know exactly why. She is an amazing pianist and vocalist, she teaches the kiddos around the neighborhood, rides her bike everywhere she goes and brings a spirit of joy with her. I had a really good time talking with her about the community, music, open mic comedy at The Boiled Owl Tavern, and the animals in her wall. The middle track is a Foxtrot Uniform song called Not Alone of off Cisco and its super groovy. What a great track and Katie sounds fantastic in verse 2. We also talk about not going to Psych Fest and the loss of Jason Alfords van. Cody Soape gets mentioned as well as Vincent Neil Emerson, Benjamin Napier, Tyrel Choat, and many more. This was a blast to do. Live music its been a while but its back with a porpoise. The closing track is called Eating Crow. I really think you guys will dig this one. Thanks as always. Don't forget May 31 Pop Up Fest at Capps Park and join Katie June 3 at the Boiled Owl for her birthday bash with Botany, Secret Ghost Champion, Squanto and Sur Duda!

Southside Pirate John Rody and Sallie Rody
Monday May 18, 2015
Monday May 18, 2015
John Rody and Sallie Rody showed up last night on time with gifts. They brought some Kind bars that are delicious. I forgot to mention the snacks on the show as well as a bunch of other stuff. I had an FM DJ intro I was going to do, a WhiskeyBoy joke and much more, but when a Texas radio hall of famer is sitting across from you watching you do your thing, well your mind goes to mush. I think I really only asked one question. This is really a conversation between friends and these are my favorite kind of shows. I am not going to tell you what we talked about, you will have to listen. Don't be intimidated by the length (I've never said that before) this is super interesting and entertaining. When John Rody speaks you cant help but pay attention and the time flys. I will tell you it is almost entirely about the Southside Pirate. There is a lot of radio talk. Some of it is technical and some philosophical. I had so much fun doing this. This radio station is going to be something special and you are just witnessing the beginning. If you have show ideas or want to underwrite or just want to make sure you get to hear it make sure and follow the Southside Pirate on Facebook. You can stream it online at the website or you can get the tune in app and find the station there. Soon it will be broadcasting in your car on 97.5 FM. Yes,! Fort Worth is going to have their own truly local station and its very very exciting. The opening track I never mention on the podcast. ( Brain = mush) The first track you hear is Chucho called Peace Sign. This song is so rad. You can get the whole EP on bandcamp and the whole thing is really great. In the middle we take a break and get a Shower of Country Gold by locals Convo and the Cattlemen. Another truly tremendous album. Not to be out shined we close the show with one of my favorite tracks for the one and only Denver Williams called Kick that heavenly Feeling. This is from album Hood Cream also on bandcamp and it's definitely one to check out. I hope you guys enjoy this episode and support local and support the pirate with your time or money. Friday May 08, 2015
Friday May 08, 2015
I have a special edition of LowDown with EdBrown for you today. Today we talk beer! Kerim Razack joins me and Edward Brown and we talk about his beer blog Doc Hop Head. You can find the website at http://www.dochophead.com/ We talk local breweries, community, and the different types of beers. Ed and Kerim talk about some of there favorite beers and favorite places to get beer. I manage to squeeze in some Smokey and the Bandit talk. Ed will sometimes write reviews for the blog and if you are a hop head too and would like to review craft beer for the blog all is welcome. Make sure you like Doc Hop Head on Facebook and contact Kerim. You can also follow him on twitter and Instagram at DocHopHead. Ed Brown suggested for the middle track we play Shotgun Friday and their song Velvet Hammer. https://shotgunfriday.bandcamp.com/releasesAfter the break Ed and I sit and talk about his cover story in this weeks Fort Worth Weekly. However when I went to post the episode the audio was gone. I cant locate it. What a drag. It's an interesting article about questionable spending practices and questionable hiring and firing practices in the Eagle Mountain School District. You can read the article here and I urge you to do so. http://www.fwweekly.com/2015/05/06/failing-grades/After I talk about the interview I did with Ed we close the show out with a new release from Svenny Baby Songs you've never heard.https://svennybabymusic.bandcamp.com/I hope you enjoy this one! I also tried something new and added a music bed to the discussion. Extra points if you can tell me what it is! As always thanks very much for spending some of your time listening.

WhiskeyBoy, EagleBones and the Lord.
Sunday May 03, 2015
Sunday May 03, 2015
This week on the podcast I have the one and only Matthew Blake also know as WhiskeyBoy. How many ounces of whiskey is to much whiskey is one of the many topics we tackled. The songs this week are the lost songs from last weeks pulled episode. Some of you have heard them but most haven't and the songs are so great that I at least wanted them to be heard. So to kick off the show we have Mean Motor Scooter Rhythm Of Love. The show starts off with talk about the big fight that apparently happened saturday night. We also talk whiskey, healthy living, podcast doing stand up comedy and Friday on the Green coming up May 8. The middle track is Jake Paleschic Easy Living. The second half we talk about Pop Up Fest May 9 at Capps Park. WhiskeyBoy wanted to talk about something a little heavier so we talk a little about Baltimore and somehow make our way to gay marriage and of course love. Its all about the love up in here. Make sure to check out WhiskeyBoy Radio and all of our other podcast brethren like The Jerry Jonestown Massacre, Atypical dfw podcast, EpicPodQuest, Robotuner's Insignificant Podcast, Off Radar Podcast and Porpoise Crispy Podcast. The last track is from I happy am. This track is from their visit to The Jerry Jonestown Massacre. Its called The Prophet and it's amazing!!

Nathan and Tara Brown talk Kids Comedy and Music
Monday Apr 20, 2015
Monday Apr 20, 2015
After spending time at open streets I could think of no better way to spend Sunday evening than with Nathan Brown and Tara Brown. These two, wow, just fantastic. She is a local stand up comic and Mom. He is a local musician who plays 80s info program music. They are both amazing at what they do. We talk 80s, kids, women's issues, an awesome super secret idea coming soon to fairmount, music and stand up comedy. The show opens with Nathan Brown and his tune Banana Seat Bike Chase. The halfway point we play some of Taras stand up. It's so great. She may be my new favorite female comic. Does it have to be female comic? Cant it just be comic? We discuss that too. Man we talk about a lot of stuff. I was super excited to meet them and they were cooler than I imagined. I hope you enjoy this. Check out her comedy and definitely keep an eye out for Nathan Brown. He will be having some new tunes out soon and we all wait in anticipation. The last track is called Snugglebug. A sweetly, maybe slightly inappropriate, song he wrote for Tara. Nathans music is very familiar but different than anything you will hear around town. Its pretty incredible what he is doing. There is plenty of music talk with Nathan too. Seriously folk these two are people you should know if you don't already. Check out their stuff. You can find some of Nathans tunes herehttps://soundcloud.com/nathanbrowninghamAlso follow Tara on twitter at Faux_Ma@twitter and like her Faux Ma page on Facebook. Thanks Y'all. Much Love

Positive Vibes with Jason Earll and Friends
Monday Apr 13, 2015
Monday Apr 13, 2015
Jason Earll came over with some of his musician friends to do the podcast this week. We have Jason as the singer and songwriter 12 string guitar player. We have Timmy Crawford tickling the keys and doing back up. On lead guitar is Chris Allen Curtis and holding down the bottom is Pat Tremble on bass. The opening song is called blooming. Jason is a local Posi musician and we find out exactly what Posi is. We spend a little time with each one talking about the path that lead them to this kind of music. These guys have all attended or attend Unity Church of Fort Worth and or Harmony Fellowship of Fort Worth and so we spend some time talking church. We talk about some of our favorites in this community like KatsüK, Alan Rice, of course Paul John Roach and the always inspirational Melinda Wood Allen. The second song is a more intimate number with a touching story called Last Prayer. The dog, Willow, makes many appearances because her and Timmy became best friends. This podcast is full of positivity, love, music, pets, church and #DFWPosi. The last track is a catch number called So Easy to be Beautiful. I had a lot of fun with this one and any excuse to get on the inter-webs and shine a little light and spread a little love is a great excuse. Jason has a go fund me campaign going. He is trying to make a full length album. If you can help out please do so. I know he'd appreciate it.http://www.gofundme.com/jasonposiand you can hear some demos at https://soundcloud.com/jason-earll

Beginnings and Endings with Seth Reeves
Monday Apr 06, 2015
Monday Apr 06, 2015
Seth Reeves, frontman for the Siberian Traps, came by the house and sang 3 gorgeous songs and talk with me about everything from birth to death. The show starts off with a song called Phillip Sheridan. Wait till you find out who Phillip Sheridan is. The second songs is called Songs I Don't Write and again another wonderful story behind this track. We close with a touching song called Lights Keep Blinking which is a tribute to his late father. In this show we start with the birth of his daughter. We also talk about local music, coffee shops in Burleson. and Nashville. The episode ends with the death of his Dad. It wasn't intentional to have an Easter episode that covers endings and beginnings but I think it came out beautifully. I hope you enjoy it. Happy Easterhttps://siberiantraps.bandcamp.com/album/blackfoot

A Sort of NerdCore Homecoming with Doug Funnie
Monday Mar 30, 2015
Monday Mar 30, 2015
This week on the show is the one and only Doug Jason Funnie. With Joe Tacke tweaking the knobs and Zach Zanetich sitting in and taking notes I had the whole crew in tow. Thank goodness I did. At the middle break everything shut down and I feared I had lost the first half hour of dialogue. Having an audio engineer on hand, Joe along with Zach found the file and we were able to rescue the audio. With that in mind most of the conversation revolves around Doug Funnie (Nerdcore) newest album Homecoming. The show kicks off with Gotta Go. We talk about the first album Where is Doug Funnie?, and how our hero is on the lamb at the end of the album. The newest album is a continuation and we find Doug still on the run. We talk about the story line, some characters and the musical styles represented. We talk about Nerdcore as a genre and try and find the roots of it. MC Frontalot is in the conversation as to who the godfather of Nerdcore may be and is featured on the middle track called Need Your Help. We also talk about ( or attempt to ) the differences between Dallas Fort Worth and Denton when it comes to hip hop, nerdcore, or rap. I share a little about Saturday night at the Cellar Fort Worth, get into a weird metaphysical loop (we're all connected man) and just generally had a blast on this one. Doug Funnie is a fantastic rapper, an excellent writer, creative genius when it comes to mixing video game music with his tunes, and the last song we play wraps up who he is and what he is about. It is called Homecoming and I know you will dig it. You can find all his albums at https://dougfunnie.bandcamp.com/

Thumbs up for Callie Dee
Tuesday Mar 24, 2015
Tuesday Mar 24, 2015
Callie Dee is a Hip Hop guru. She hosted a Hip Hop show, did local showcases, blogs and now books national acts. I was lucky enough to sit with her and learn about local hip hop. Bodega Brothers kick off the show with Bout that Life and the middle track is Baconomics, Turkey Bacon (WhiskeyBoys favorite) and we close with the most perfect of jams by Hologram Dagger called Beneath the above. We talk about Dallas Fort Worth and Denton, family and the Southside Pirate. Sorry it's so short. Im at lunch right now and will have a complete description with links in the next couple of days. I sure hope you enjoy this. I really had a blast and learned a lot. Like the 4 elements of the hip hop scene. What? Listen to find out!
