Love or Delusion with Nina Ty
Monday Mar 09, 2015
Monday Mar 09, 2015
Nina Ty stopped by the house for the interview. She had two guitars, one amp, a vocal processor and a whole mess off pedals. What a week for Joe Tacke to decide to go skiing. With Joe gone and Zach Zanetich also gone this week, we go old school, Mono el Mono. ( or something ) The show starts with a catchy number called Love or Delusion. We talk about love, delusion and being your real self. The interview was a lot of fun. Nina is from New Orleans and arrived here around the time Katrina arrived there. We talk about her city and she does some amazing spoken word halfway through. We talk about her biggest influence and inspiration and we also talk about the loss of that inspiration. We get into The Wherehouse, some of the cool folks around town, and her next gig which is March 15th at Shipping and Shipping & Receiving. Its part of the Funky Sunday Series put on by Keep Fort Worth Funky. Also playing the event is Grant Bloom and speaking is Will Schnack. All friends of the podcast and Yoga will happen as well as a movie called OMG GMO. $5 is what you will pay for such an awesome event. Nina plays at 3pm so get there early and check out one of FunkyTown SouthSide Ft.Worth newest artist. We close the show with one of Ninas newer songs called Good time Girl. You can find Nina on Facebook and well as http://www.ninatymusic.com/and soundcloud.com/ninatymusic

Monday Mar 02, 2015
The week Nate "the AssassiNayter" Jones joins the podcast for a noisy (sorry), fun, epic ride through the podcast world, nerd world and local music world. We hit a lot of worlds. Last week I forgot Doug Jason Funnies name so this week we kick off the show with Reading Rainbow. We talk with Nayt Jones about his podcast EpicPodQuest as well as some other local shows. Nayt was a lot of fun to sit and talk with and we also had Zach Zanetich along for the ride. We talked Net Neutrality, local music and coffee shops, the Wherehouse, comic books, Sam Dobbins comedy career and we also find out if Nayt is an unfriendly black hottie. The second track is Chingalotus Love in the key of G (thang) . We talked about a lot of folks in this one. Just to name some that were either mentioned or talked aboutThe Jerry Jonestown Massacre, Atypical dfw podcast, WhiskeyBoy Radio, The Southside Pirate, Off Radar Podcast, Matt Thomas, Ansley The-Destroyer Dougherty, Grant Bloom, Barron Brothers, Tony Diaz, Casey Smith, Jack Thunder & The Road Soda, Happy Birthday Todd Klepacki, Night Gallery and (inhale deeply…exhale) Porpoise Crispy Podcast. Phew! Last track Dead Weight by The Phantom Sensation. Dare to take this quest.https://twitter.com/Epicpodquesthttp://www.epicpodquest.com/2015/02/26/127-thundersleet/

Gimme Some More Mean Motor Scooter
Tuesday Feb 24, 2015
Tuesday Feb 24, 2015
Some of you may know Joe Tacke as the guy who makes the podcast sound so great. (When it sounds great) He is also in a band called Mean Motor Scooter. I had the oppertunity to see the Scooter play at the Cellar Fort Worth and they blew my doors off, or socks. Something got blown off! Sammy Kidd fronts the band and Jeffrey Chase Friedman keeps time while Joe keeps the bottom funky and smooth with his bass grooves. You may remember these boys from an outfit called Endless Sky. With a new sound, a new name and a new attitude Mean Motor Scooter was realized. When you hear them play you can expect blues based garage grungy rock and roll or as they like to say Vintage Rock! On this episode, however, an acoustic stripped back version of the Scooter is what you will hear. We start off with Monsters and the middle track is Son, I'm an Alien and we close it out with Gimme Some More! Find out whose dad is an alien, who speaks russian and worked for the U.N in Russia and who lives in Dallas (What?) Make sure you check out and like Mean Motor Scooter on facebook for info on the new tracks soon to be released and go to a Mean Motor Scooter show!!! Also check out Amy Tate Photography! The picture this week was taken by her.

Year of the Bear!
Wednesday Feb 18, 2015
Wednesday Feb 18, 2015
Year of the Bear! Enough said right? Year of the Bear is a meaningful band to me. 20 years ago bassist Josh "Bear" Browning and I kinda sorta, in a mutual friend kind of way, knew each other. I don't find it shocking that I found him on the Southside playing bass in an incredible band. So what did he do between then and now? How did he meet drummer/singer Robby Rux and how did guitarist Jennifer Rux and Robby meet? We talk about past bands they played in, current bands they play in, and Robbys favorite local band. Dreamy Soundz is an independent label run by the Ruxs. You can find some of the bands like The Fibs, and The Cush on that label as well as the full length album coming out soon from Year of the Bear. I intended on talking instruments, gear, cassettes and vinyl but instead talked about the number 11, christian music, and whoever John Smith is. We also talked about the grand reopening of Dreamy Life Records and Music now located in the heard of the hood at Allen and 5th inside of the Fairmount Community Library Fort Worth. Of course The Southside Pirate is mentioned. The opening track is called Super 8 and the middle track is Centra-Magic. We close the show with an epic track called Old Gold Flame. You can find all the music you need from these guys herehttps://yearofthebear1111.bandcamp.com/https://dreamysoundz.bandcamp.com/

Barron Brothers February Demos
Monday Feb 09, 2015
Monday Feb 09, 2015
Last night the Barron Brothers came to the house. Kevin Charles Barron, Travis Barron, and Codie Binion rocked the house with an acoustic guitar, one snare and conga and a stand up bass. The very first stand up bass in the living room. It was awesome. Joe Tacke mixed the sound again and it sounds great. The music does anyway. We recorded 3 tracks, the opener called Dawn and Hungover, the middle tracked called Heat in A Flat (my personal favorite) and the closing number is a freaking great number called Johnny and June. Joe left after we recorded the tunes and we sat to do the hour interview. It starts off good enough with a little love to The NED Files (like their page and check out their show), some The Southside Pirate news and the conversation begins and shortly after something went haywire and the recording stopped. Twice!! I'll blame Joe Tacke. The conversation is fun and you can hear it all. There is a little noise but it's not terrible. Its more like the good ol days. We talk life in the mid cities, going to high school with Ansley The-Destroyer Dougherty, and submarines! These guys were incredibly kind, super cool, uber talented, a whole mess of fun. There is lots of love, community and The Phantom Sensation talk. You can see Barron Brothers and TPS at Lolas Feb 27 and You can see Baron Brothers at the Grotto March 28.You can download the newest EP from the Barron Brothers at http://barronbros.com/https://soundcloud.com/BarronBrothershttps://open.spotify.com/artist/1c2KSB2Fc6YDj8uIAThgKihttp://instagram.com/barronbrothershttps://twitter.com/BARRONBROS

Shake That Butt! - Chingalotus
Monday Feb 02, 2015
Monday Feb 02, 2015
Lot a drinking, lot a smoking and a lot of cussin…and then the podcast happend. Denver Williams returns with band mates Charles Cam Marchbanks and Josh Garcia (Dirt McGurt). A party wouldn't be a party without writer friend Marty Lloyd Woldman along for the ride. Big Thanks to Joe Tacke of Mean Motor Scooter for running sound again, this week we have live music from Chingalotus. A stripped down version and one you wont hear anywhere else. Chingalotus is quickly becoming one of my favorite bands. From the lyrics to the music and structure, and overall general vibe, Chingalotus is freaking awesome. The first track is new and exclusive. Its called Dinosaur. We talk about the band and how they met, as well their approach to making great tunes. I ask about Shake That Butt. We spent so much time before the podcast talking its hard to remember exactly what we talked about here. I remember some Ween and Flaming Lipps talk. I also remember a lot of laughing, singing and generally a good time. The middle track is called Trojan Horse and off of there newest recording. We talk about word play and the name of the new album. Marty is from Austin and on his way to Albuquerque to walk from ABQ to Sante Fe. So we spend a little time with him. Vincent Neil Emerson calls in and we get to to bottom of what really happend at Shipping and Recieving friday night. The show closes with my favorite jam by them called Screwz Loose and its off the first Album. Give them a like and a listen. Also check out Coyote Cyanide and check out the book All the Unspeakable Things by Marty Lloyd WoldmanYou can find Chingalotus herehttps://chingalotus.bandcamp.com/https://denverwilliams.bandcamp.com/email is funkytownpodcast@gmail.comrss http://funkytownpodcast.podbean.com/feed/

The Phantom Sensation in the Blackgrass Express
Monday Jan 26, 2015
Monday Jan 26, 2015
Chugga Chugga Choo Choo! All aboard the Blackgrass Express. I have a Phantom Sensation deep in my soul and The Phantom Sensation came by the house and played 3 songs live and talked for more than an hour about their new home here in Funkytown, their goals and vision, and what they have planned for 2015. Big announcement that can be heard here on the Funkytownpodcast. The first track you here is Better Times and the middle track is Road to Nowhere and to close it out it's my favorite TPS tune DeadWeight. This podcast is super fun. We talk, drink beer, and play with the puppy dog. There are a lot of voices on this one and it runs a little long but TPS is a 5 piece and all 5 came over. Brandon, Jessica, Zach, Aaron and Jessie. Not only do we talk about TPS but also Breathe Believe, I Happy am, the Cellar, the Wherehouse, Whiskeyboy Radio, and much much more. I don't want to give to much away because I want you to hear it. It's a good one for sure. The music sounds great thanks always to Joe Tacke of Mean Motor Scooter. Now while listening or shortly after I would like you to go to The Phantom Sensation Facebook page, twitter page, instagram page or website and send them your email address and get put on the mailing list called Blackgrass Express. Man, It's finally here and worth the wait I hope. Wes Word is Psychedelephant. Psychedelephant is Wes Word. Wes is awesome and it was a real pleasure to meet him and Mary Jane. The show kicks off with a mash up called Old Feels. That is not all Wes does. He host an open mic every monday at Lolas! Open mic is not only a great place to get your feet wet, polish the old pipes, its also a great place to see the up and comers. We talk about the importance of open mics. We also talk about the neighborhood and how its changed over the years, as well as local Facebook groups. We talk music, psychedelics and water meditation. This was a fun podcast to do. Lots of good local talk. Wes does a great live acoustic track in the middle called Life's a Trip. He has a very rhythmic way of playing. We close out the show with another Psychedelephant original track called Giraffter. Wes is awesome! He is kind, smart and an easy going spirit. Henry the Archer, Plastick Object and a Polaroid
Sunday Jan 11, 2015
Sunday Jan 11, 2015
Back at my house this week with Richard Phillip from Henry the Archer. Richard is know to be a wild man so I asked my buddy Dustin Schneider to sit in with me and keep Richard in check. You may know Dustin from The Jerry Jonestown Massacre and not only was he the muscle but also the show photographer. You can see the pictures on the Funkytownpodcast page. The show starts with my favorite track off of the album When Something Means Nothing by Henry the Archer called Why Cant You Hear Me? How can one be from New Jersey, live in Colorado and front a local Fort Worth band? How did Richard get swindled into doing a song with JJTM? A creepy dark song from a creepy dark movie that somehow turned out brilliant. We talk about everything from medical marijuana, the secret service at the Cellar Fort Worth the night before JFK was killed, and what Andy Griffith character we'd be. This episode was a ton of fun to do and there is so much here but I want to keep it short. Dustin was brilliant on the show and Richard was interesting, funny and insightful. The middle track is Laser Gun and we close out the show with DTML. You can find Henry the Archer any where you buy music online. Itunes, CDbaby, Amazon ect. Pick it up, you'll love it. You can see Henry the Archer January 23 at The Live Oak. All photos from the show done by Plastik Object Photography. Like the page and if you are a band needing promo shots give Dustin a shout. http://www.plastikobject.com/

Tidals Sympathetic Vibrations
Monday Jan 05, 2015
Monday Jan 05, 2015
In the new year I resolve to make these shorter. So in that spirit Tidals came by Joe Tackes One Horn Studios last night and did the podcast. The studio was tight and cozy as Ztnal Ymerej (Jeremy) and Joshua Wrinkle warmed us up with electronic tones. The first track is Sympathetic Vibrations and the middle track is Visions of Eternity and they close out the podcast with Civilized End. I wont give you any spoilers on the conversation but we did cover many topics from holidays, world travel, family, friendship and local sports (Rugby??). Its always a blast sitting and talking with these two interesting dudes. Oh and of course we talk about and give a shout out to Aunt Sheila. Hope you enjoy this as much as we did making it. You can find Tidals all over social media https://soundcloud.com/tidals-1 https://twitter.com/_Tidals_
