Comedy, Creepin' and 'Coustic music with Joel Murray A.K.A UBOAT
Monday Oct 20, 2014
Monday Oct 20, 2014
When I meet a fan of the Duncan Trussell Family Hour I know I have met a new friend. That was the case with Joel Murray. Joel came over with a sweet UBOAT shirt, a couple of UBOAT CDS and 2 DTFH stickers. Yes! This podcast is me getting to know someone I really want to get to know. I first saw UBOAT play at the Wherehouse for the Dreamy Soundz Group Therapy Compilation Vol. 1. Release party. He played early but left an impression on me. When I started the podcast I wanted to have this guy on. I only knew him as UBOAT. Thanks to Facebook me and Joel became friends and I found out that not only is this guy UBOAT, but this guy is a fan of Joe Rogan and Duncan and all the DeathSquad podcast. He also works at Hyenas comedy club downtown. So I couldn't wait to have him on. His songs were raw, creepy and freakin awesome and we talked music, comedy and podcast as well as the Fort Worth scene. His first song is called Written in Mascara and the middle track (one of my personal faves) is These Windows Are Made For Stalking and the last track is called Heaven Sun Hell. Now after the last song plays we do come back and talk for a few more minutes. I couldn't stop talking to Joel. The episode runs a little long because of it. We talked another hour after the podcast. Its hard to say whats in here other than tons of stuff. From Road Soda, to recording with Robby Rux and Jen, and the Vincent Neil Emerson fascination and even playing the Song Writers showcase and Luke McGlathery winning. He is a fan of podcast, fan of my podcast and I am a fan of his. Hope you check out this episode and download his albums. THEY ARE FREE FOR YOUhttp://www.cdbaby.com/cd/uboat3http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/uboatFollow him on facebook. He plays the Grotto in Nov. Also go see a comedy show at Hyenas.

Art, Music and Moving Mountains with Matt Cliff
Monday Oct 13, 2014
Monday Oct 13, 2014
Matt Cliff is a local artist who has had his work featured on Brandin Leas' guitar from Jetta and the Ghost Tree, The Black Angles guitar and Album cover, as well as concert posters for ACL and Clearfork. His art can also be seen on local band shirts like Un Chien and Holy Moly. I first heard about Matt on another local podcast call Off Radar. I showed interest in having him on and here he his. Local boy did good. We talk about his days working at the Aardvark in the kitchen to doing a mural on the wall. We talk about his experience working with a band like the Black Angles and what its like to paint a guitar and see your work proudly displayed in front of thousands of people. There is actually a lot here in this podcast from self importance/universal importance, should bands play a little or a lot, death, moving mountains and the philosophy of not being an A Hole. This guy is interesting, very charming, and super talented. The music for this podcast was picked out by the guest and he did a fantastic job bringing you some groovy local jams. The show starts with Skeleton Coast - Rupees the middle track is The Henderson - Celery and the closing track is Secret Ghost Champion - HealerIf you check out Matts FaceBook page you can see a lot of photos from some of the art we talk about. Definitely check out this guy. He has some art coming soon to Lolas so keep an eye out for that and if you would like to contact Matt Cliff for Art or Conversation you can email him at mattcliff88@gmail.com

The Hendersons, Silver Siblings and Pornography
Monday Oct 06, 2014
Monday Oct 06, 2014
Nolan Ryan Robertson of The Hendersons came by the house. Windows open, chain on fan, and train outside, we got right to buisness. A new personalized intro from Mayor Betsy Price leads into Appalachian Stew. The first half of the show is a little geeky and technical but I am a huge fan of the album Indian Summer by The Hendersons.I am curious about the aproach to song writing, influence and the technical side of process and tonality and harmonies. https://thehendersons.bandcamp.com/The second half kicks of with Daisys Song and another quick word from the Mayor. The second half is lighter and more fun. We get into pornography, record burnings and growing up in the internet age. Nolan has another project that he is working on called SilverSibling with Brandon Reynolds from the Breakfast Machine. What a couple of cool dudes these guys are. They sent me an exclusive, unreleased, special funkytown podcast remix of Super Heavy Gravity! Pick Up The Album Indian Summer by the Hendersons and look for SilverSibling!https://www.facebook.com/thehendersonsocietyhttps://twitter.com/hendersonsmusichttps://www.facebook.com/silversiblingshttps://breakfastmachine.bandcamp.com/Speak easy and carry a big mic! Monday Sep 29, 2014
Did I ever tell you guys that I meet the coolest people in Funkytown? This weeks guest is Caleb Stanislaw. He is a little nervous about this so make sure you give him lots of love. He starts off the show with Halfway Drunk Again. I really like the way this guy writes and sings! We talk family, music and The Hendersons. The middle track is Soul Searching. Caleb talks about the evolution of that song. We get into the philosophy of song writing. Caleb has a new project he is working on called Holy Shit! The Pyramids so we talk about pyramids and other mind bending things. Caleb plays bass for Luke McGlathery, plays guitar with Vincent Neil Emerson (Caleb is one of the old souls), also he is starting to play with Foxtrot Uniform. This dude can flat play the guitar and he shows it on the last song Snake and the Hound. This is a community intensive interview. We spend lots of time giving Fort Worth love, talking about our friends, talking about the forever Jamboree at The Grotto and we even spend a moment on hometown hero Luke Wade and the meaning of success. I really appreciate you guys listening and if you are tuning in to hear about the party at Shipping and Receiving Saturday night then check your feed in a couple of days. I am gonna do a separate show about the Night in the Clouds JJTM Party. As always rate and review on Itunes and Stitcher and if you have and thoughts or questions funkytownpodcast@gmail.com

Monday Sep 22, 2014
This is the one! I am not sure I have done a better podcast than this one right here. No podcast last week, so this week you get a double shot. The first hour I sit with my podcaster in crime Dustin Schneider from The Jerry Jonestown Massacre. We talk about the party coming up Sept 27th at Shipping & Receiving. We get into all the bands. I happy am. The Confounded. He tells a rivoting story about Henry the Archer. There is Hot Meat Ceral (you have to listen to find out) and of course Waking Alice. We also have some questions for Dustin from one of our favorite people Sweet Sweet Rebecca Dugan. Then the record gets flipped over and the table gets turned and Dustin interviews me for the second hour. He asks where I come from and where I have been. What makes Jeff the Lord and why I decided to do this podcast in the first place. He ask me about music, my favorite people and places. I talk about how I stalk Vincent Neil Emerson, my undying love for Ansley The-Destroyer Dougherty and the greatness that is The Hendersons. We talk preaching, pentecost and hands on healing. This one has everything in it. Music, photography and guess what? I am in a fantasy football league. Who knew? Wait till you hear how I am doing. Thanks to The Live Oak for a wonderfull spot up top, chips and salsa and sweet tea. Oh yea and a left handed snake bite. The first track is one of mine. Sexy Sally. The middle track is also one of mine called Homie Sexuals on Parade and the last track is one of Dustins old projects called Plastikon and the song is called Rising Tide inspired by hurricane Katrina. I really enjoyed doing this podcast this week. I really dig JR Honeycutt and what he is doing. JR Honeycutt is this weeks guest and man is he a cool cat. JR created DFW Nerd Night. They host monthly gaming parties for charity, and work to help communities across the country in every way they can. There is a lot of info here and it can all be found at dfwnn.org. We talk about games of course, the philosphy behind game night, and some of the music behind game night. All tracks this week are from artist who have helped out with game night. Lucky Luke Leaves the Lord Listless!
Monday Sep 01, 2014
Monday Sep 01, 2014
Luke McGlathery is one hell of a singer/songwriter (reguardless what he
tells you). Over the past year Luke and I have become good buddies. I
have had many of wonderful conversations with him. So when he came over
with Vincent Neil Emerson and "some girls" in tow I didnt expect the
conversation to be so awkward. After he left I felt kinda bad. I want
every podcast to end with the listener thinking what a cool person. I
want to check out their stuff. I felt as if I had failed Luke in this. I
went to Lolas to see Luke and his band play. I also saw Vincent and The
Old Souls play as well as Denver Williams. When I came home that night I
listened again. I couldnt stop laughing. Its really quite hilarious.
Luke came off funny and charming and modest, which he is. I think you
will enjoy this bumpy ride. We talk about all kinds of things including
the norm as well as jack shacks, super powers, Miley Cyrus, local
venues, local bands, the wherehouse and Luke Wades Sunday Singer
Songwriter Showcase at Queen City. The opening track is Blind Luck, the
middle number is Everybody and the last is a cover called Macho B by
Rlyad Manuel Elmasri. You can see Luke and his band Sept 19 at the
Grotto with Luke Wade. Like his facebook page and check out his album

Monday Aug 25, 2014
Monday Aug 25, 2014
Grant Bloom came by the house last night and played some live nude music. Grant is a young man of 20 years and blew me away with his talent for both singing and playing guitar. Coincidentally the first track he plays is called Young Man Blues. The conversation kicks off with us talking about his guitar technique and style. We talk about his songs, band, and upcoming EP. The middle track is Stand So Tall and is the single off of his upcoming EP. We get away from music questions and talk about what if questions. We have a lot of fun here talking about house parties, brothers and immortality. The dog makes another apperance right before Grant plays his last song Still. Listen all the way to the end for another special treat! You can find Grant on facebook, at GrantBloommusic.com and soundcloud.com/grantbloomThe intro and outro courtesy of Becky, Cherub and agent #2 at the NedFiles. Metal Health with Waking Rus
Monday Aug 18, 2014
Monday Aug 18, 2014
When Rus Chaney of Waking Alice stopped by the Funkytownpodcast studios A.K.A my livingroom I was feeling under the weather. I am not sure what hit me but I was begining to feel ill. However the talk I had with Rus was a lot of fun and very interesting. We talk about some of our podcast friends, competive cheerleading, theatre, and oh yeah some metal. The opening track is November Burns and the midway track is BiPolar Heart. Rus tells the story of inspiration behind the title and his own personal experience with heart issues. I have only know Rus through other podcast and social media but when he came over I felt as if we have been friends for a while now. I really like this guy and hope you enjoy the conversation. The closing track is Hostage and you can see Waking Alice this friday Aug 22 at Tomcats West, Sept 20 at The Grotto and of course headlining The Jerry Jonestown Massacre one year anniversay party Sept 27 at Shipping & Receiving.
