Happy Fathers Day from The JerryJonesTownMassacre
Monday Jun 16, 2014
Monday Jun 16, 2014
Todays father day show was awesome. I had on Dustin Schneider and Matt Stubbs from my favorite podcast (don't judge me!) The Jerry Jonestown Massacre! Whether or not you are a fan this episode is fantastic. If you are a fan you will totally dig this. Everything you wanted to know and then some. I don't want to get to much into what we talked about because I really want you to listen. The music is top notch Fort Worth bands per usual. It kicks off with FWMA nominee for best heavy metal band Southern Train Gypsy Hallelujah in the Fire. This songs rocks! Then the next track you hear is also nominated for best hard rock band FOGG Fried Cheer. The last track is by Igneous Grimm and if they are not nominated for something they should be. Their track is You and I are the same. (thats kinda the point of this episode) Some of the subjects we talk about are the assanation attempt on Matt Stubbs, Dustins virgin wedding, failed shows, awesome shows, The Confounded, My trip to the Cherry Pit (swingers club (blush)) The Ol South Pancake House episode, and so much more. This is quality and quanity! Todays links arehttp://jerryjonestownmassacre.com/http://www.plastikobject.com/http://southerntraingypsy.bandcamp.com/http://fogg.bandcamp.com/http://igneousgrimm.bandcamp.com/and as always we are on itunes and stitcher and the email is funkytownpodcast@gmail.comThank you so much for listening. I love you freaky weirdos!!

Ansley the Destroyer Panics the Volcanic
Monday Jun 09, 2014
Monday Jun 09, 2014
I want to start off this by saying thanks to all that listen and to all the guest. This has been an amazing adventure for me. Truly life changing. Thanks!!!! Also you can listen on Itunes and stitcher if this site doesn't work for you. We start off the podcast with a little business. Then we get right into it. Ansley the Destroyer of Panic Volcanic fame drops by the house. This young lady is absolutely amazing. We talk about PVs bass player Zach getting nominated for best bass performance for the song spider which kicks off the show. We also talk about Ansleys involvement in the School of Rock. Really neat stuff. The middle track is Emily the Strange and we talk about where the idea for that song came from. We talk a lot about Parker Anderson and Animal Spirit. She confirms for me the fact that Slumberbuzz basically discovered Panic Volcanic at a house show and helped them get their start. She talk about past bands that she bonded with like Frisky Disco and the Breakfast Machine at the Moon Bar. R.I.P Moon Bar. We talk about the family dinner, Yoga, and spirituality. She also talk about going to school at U.N.T and her music studies. Fascinating stuff here folks for sure. Ansley is nominated for best female vocalist, and the PV album Freak Fuzz is nominated for best rock album. Please vote! Fort Worth Music Award is found on line and in the latest editon of the Fort Worth Weekly. I really believe you will enjoy this conversation and go see Panic Volcanic live in a couple of weeks at the rail club. You will thank yourself. Like the Panic Volcanic Facebook page for updates. You can get a $5 digital download of the album at bandcamp. http://panicvolcanic.bandcamp.com/http://fortworth.schoolofrock.com/http://www.fwweekly.com/2014-ballot-form/

Joe Savage and his Student Loan Blues
Monday Jun 02, 2014
Monday Jun 02, 2014
It was the witching hour when Mr. Savage arrived. He worked late and we started the podcast about 1130pm Sunday night. I had a really good time with Joe. The show starts with Joes song Let your guns slip. This song is so good that I had a hard believing that anyone I come in contact with actually wrote it. Joe Savage did write it and man is it incredible. I just love that song!! Anyways Joe did something really cool called In the music room. It's a great show, local so check it out. You can find them online and on facebook. Good interview with Joe and great tunes to boot. We talk a little bit about his past and where he came from. Then when get into teaching. Joe used to teach and so we spend a little time on education, kids, art, and student loans. Then Joe bust into Student Loan Blues. This song is a Bob Dylan Dont think twice its all right kinda jam. After a couple of smokes on the porch we come back and try to lighten it up a bit and we talk about my attraction to Vincent Neil Emerson, our meeting at the Aardvark and girls, girls, girls. The podcast end sneaks up on us and Joe closes out the show with a fun song called Sauvignon Rye.http://www.reverbnation.com/joesavagesingshttp://slatersavage.bandcamp.com/http://www.inthemusicroom.com/artist-joesavage.htm

Monday May 19, 2014
Boom! Boom! Diggity Boom! 5 Phantoms in my living room. The Phantom Sensation came by with their acoustic equipment and threw down. They played 3 songs, sink or swim, build a fire and deadweight. Then we sit and talk for an hour. We learn about the 7 track EP Tell the World I Was a Gentleman. It's a conceptual ep with a great story. We talk about their show at the Hangman's House Of Horrors with the Royal Savages. We talk about Sundays with the Rev with James Zamentz and Keep Fort Worth Funky. More Please James!!! We talk about the happening town of Burleson, how cool Fort Worth is (of course!) and some of our favorite bars like the Cellar. I talk about my visit to the Grotto and how non smoking bars affect the musicians and the patrons. There is so much here. I ask random questions to each member, Zach, Adam, Brandon, Jessica and Jessie and we have a lot of fun with it. We talk about the friends of the band like Panic Volcanic, The Royal Savages, the SafeNSoundCollective, and much more. The music was done separate from the interview but edited in to the regular format just like last weeks episode with Jack Thunder and Road Soda. Jack Thunder and the Road Soda
Monday May 12, 2014
Monday May 12, 2014
Jack Thunder (Preston Newberry) and the Road Soda (Todd Klepacki) came by and played music live from my living room. They played 3 tracks. Spy car, Eastside, and Porter Party. Then we sat and talked for an hour. We talked about the band, Robby Rux, Dreamy Soundz, Dreamy Life the new record store, Avoca Coffee, and the benefit for Matt Vickers. It was a lively conversation and a really good podcast. Its noisy again in the house. The windows open and fans on. Door slamming open and shut. However the vibe was perfect and the guest were incredible. The music will rock your socks off. https://soundcloud.com/jackthunder-theroadsodahttp://dreamysoundz.bandcamp.com/https://www.crowdtilt.com/campaigns/official-matt-Vickers-benefit-fundhttp://www.dfw.com/2014/05/12/891307/concert-review-matt-vickers-benefit.htmlAlso whatever you do, don't check out JerryJonesTownMassacre. Live, Laugh and Love like Peter Lufkin
Monday Apr 28, 2014
Monday Apr 28, 2014
As the Bitch Bricks were playing a show at the Boiled Owl, I was introducing the not shoe gazey female trio to Papa Pete Peter Lufkin. We talk Bitch Bricks and other Dreamy Soundz bands. A little later I play audio from another local podcast Whiskey Boy Radio and then tell an ill advised story I heard on the Jerry Jones Town Massacre podcast involving an "incident" at Old South Pancake House. From there I play a track from a band I heard about on the JJ Town Podcast and then on Whiskey Boy Radio. The Confounded is the band and Words is the song. I was originally going to close the show with a Longshots track Mucho Mango. The music was preloaded and fires off and Peter and I roll with it and talk about our love for the song and I accidentally call Alex Zobel an egomaniac. Sorry Alex! We also extol the greatness of the Hannah Barbarians, talk about how freaking awesome Ansley the Destroyer and Panic Volcanic are, and some of our favorite places to see shows. We talk about record store day, Prairie Fest and open streets. This episode is a lot of fun and we give a lot of love to our city, our scene and you! Thanks for listening and as always you can find this on itunes and stitcher. Like us on facebook and email at funkytownpodcast@gmail.com Oh and we close the show with Jefferson Colby with a track off of bandcamp called Emphasis on Nemesis.jeffersoncolby.bandcamp.comdreamysoundz.bandcamp.com for bitch bricksThe Confounded on tumblr

Katsuk There and Back Again
Monday Apr 14, 2014
Monday Apr 14, 2014
If you are a fan of the ambient sounds in the podcast, well this one has them. Windows open and the wind blows through the house opening and closing doors at will, the train makes his normal timely apperance and i have a minor malfunction at the end when the song plays before I am ready for it. The podcast starts with an intro from yours truly where i test out a different mic and give a little love to whiskey boy radio and jerry jones town massacre. The podcast starts with Cut the Chord a track by Katsuk. I then talk with Daniel Katsuk about his evolution as an artist, Lord of the Rings and his newest track There and Back Again. There and Back Again is the middle track and Katsuk is trying to get his song on The Hobbit 3 soundtrack as the closing credits theme. We talk about what he has done, doing, and going to do next. Its very exciting to see someones dreams come to fruition. We also talk about elemental yoga and the full moon drum circle tues April 15th. Daniel is a super nice guy, very cool, and a real pleasure to sit and talk to. I hope you enjoy the podcast. The closing track is called Evergreen. I didnt forget to have the artist talk about the last track this week. www.katsuk.comgofundme.com/thereandbackagain
