My fellow funky ship mates. The S.S. Funkytownpodcast is an independent vessel free from our FCC overlords. We have left the security of the Mothership, the Good Ship Lollipop, aka the southside pirate, aka 97.5 KTFW the pirate, Arghh. We hold no animosity towards Admiral Rody or his first mate Sallie. We wish them the best in their voyage. Our mission is simple. Sail the 7 Seas of funkytown shining a light on funkiness. You have been advised.

Tomorrow's Coffee with Deanna Valone
Tuesday Apr 04, 2017
Tuesday Apr 04, 2017
Deanna Valone came on the show this week and at the perfect time. She brought with her joy, beauty and style. What a cool person she is. Her opening song ( she played live) is a do wopy number called June July and August. This is where she got me. I love watching her play. I like her picking style, gorgeous voice and great lyrics. Then we just jump into it and start talking. So easy to talk to. I had never met Deanna before and sometimes that can make the first few minutes a little awkard as you feel each other out. Not this time. We talked about her music and work and the shows she puts on. I need to get to one of these Cafe Salon shows. Her second song is sort of a salty sea song with a great story called Bottle and the Brine. Joe Tacke and Zachary Zanetich were along for the ride this week and it was good to be back in studio with an awesome guest and great live music. We have big news about the show coming up in the next week or so so stay tuned. Check out Deanna on Facebook and go get some coffee and see her play. Her last song is a bluesy number called Yesterdays Coffee. I really think you wil like her voice and style. Thanks for listening you guys!

This week we didn't have one guest, we had many. We decided to switch it up and spend the hour calling some of our friends. We call local musicians Sammy Kid of Mean Motor Scooter, Joe Savage and Luke McGlathery. We also have ties to some local podcasting legends and so we call Matt #suckitstubbs of Jerry Jonestown Massacare and Ass Hat Aaron Sanchez of Off Radar fame, which is celebrating 100! We talk to Susie Ramon from Susies Picks on the Pirate about tornadoes and the House of the Rising Thumb. Plus Zach pranks Rebekah. Its a little different than you're used to but a fun listen. Actually I haven't heard it yet. I hope its a fun listen. It was fun to record it. So theres that. As always we have 3 songs. The open is VVOES Days are Numbered. Shout out to Rene Floyd! The middle track is the Me-Thinks Loudensucke. We close the show with The Hendersons Promise Land.

Ansley Dougherty Traffick Jam
Tuesday Feb 28, 2017
Tuesday Feb 28, 2017
Ansley "The Destroyer" Dougherty fronts a local heavy fuzzed out rock band called Panic Volcanic. She joins Joe Tacke, Zachary Zanetich and yours truly in One Horn Studio to discuss a very special upcoming event she put toghether. This show, Traffick Jam 2017 benefitting Salvando Corazones, is a benefit for Costa Rican kids who have been rescued from sex trafficking. I love our community, our local musicians. This is our friends and neighbors giving back. Performing service for others and its such an truly worthy cause. Join us as we talk about Ansleys trip to Costa Rica, the people she met and how this is event came about. Find out all the details on who is playing and what kind of items and art are being auctioned off. The line up is great and some of the music is featured here in this show. We kick off with Dead Vinyl and their song Blues Beast. Also playing at the show is Lindby, Animal Spirit, and the holder of the middle musical number, Panic Volcanic with their song Set You Free. We of course have some Zach Llibs for you this week and we also learn of a new Panic Volcanic album that is getting close to being done. It's so great to have Ansley on. She is an amazing indivdual in everything she does. Please support the cause. I hope to see you all there March 4th at the Grotto. The closing tune is a cover of Bob Dylans Forever Young by Tripp Mathis who you can also see at the show. Great line up for the reals. Below is the event page. You can serve others this weekend by rocking your booty off. I hope you do just that. Tell your friends!!

Animal Spirit This Is Relevant
Monday Feb 20, 2017
Monday Feb 20, 2017
Animal Spirit dropped a brand new album Saturday, played a great show at Lolas Saturday night and we were lucky to have them on the show the next day. We open the show with Creatures of Habit. We talk with Andrew Stroheker, Parker Anderson and Zach Tucker about the new album This Is Relevant, their album release shows and the growth of the band. The middle song we jam is Doom Surf and then jump into, head first, Zach Libs. We have another installment of Questions with other Podcast with the spot light on Off Radar Podcast. We close the show out with the title track This Is Relevant. The album is great. I love jamming it. Its a bigger, fuller, mature and "More Better" album. My love for this band goes back before the podcast. The very first song you hear on the very first podcast is Animal Spirit. This band has been a part of the podcast for the last 3 years and I was so excited to finally get them in studio with Joe Tacke, Zachary Zanetich. Its a fun conversation and I cant wait for you to hear it. You can pick up the new album for $7.00 on bandcamp. Thats a price of a pack of American Spirits. So trade the American Spirits for some Animal Spirit and jam on!

Welcome Back Road Soda!
Monday Feb 13, 2017
Monday Feb 13, 2017
Todd Klepacki a.k.a The Road Soda comes back to town and back on the show. The opening track is called Champagne Steve. Armed with voice, guitar, a bass drum with one foot, and a snare drum with the other the Road Soda is a one man band and a Fort Worth treasure. These days Road Soda spends his days in Chicago but he is back in town for a few and we are lucky to have him on. Even though he doesn't currently reside in our fair town, he still influences our scene for the better. Good Dude. We spend the first half of the show catching up, talking about Chi Town, and music evolving into a more socially conscious vehicle. The middle track is Swagger. We have a sort of gruesome Zach Libs and audition a new bit. Road Soda was a good sport as we played Questions from Other Local Podcast with this weeks spotlight being on the Jerry Jonestown Massacre. He (RS) sat with a grin on his face and a question mark above his head but played along and had a good time doing it. I really like Todd. He's a really good guy, with amazing talent and a heart of gold. Check out the facebook page. The last song is 96 feelings. You can find all of these tracks off of Coupe de Cool. http://loliferecordings.com/album/coup-dcool
If that isn't enough for you, might I suggest a little Jack Thunder with your Road Soda. You can get the JT&RS album here https://dreamyliferecords.bandcamp.com/album/jt-rs
