Fishcast 4 Grassland Giggles
Tuesday Mar 19, 2019
Tuesday Mar 19, 2019
I was out sick last week and it was my birthday weekend too. So I made up for it this weekend. I got to see Joe Gorgeous at MASS on Friday night, Mexican food and Mini Golf with the family Saturday and on Sunday went to the LBJ National Grasslands with Dustin Schneider and Susie Ramon for a very special fishcast 4. The show kicks off with Phantomelo "Tempest" and the podcast starts right as we are finishing our lunch made by Susie. A wonderful little vegetarian quiche and a spunky little salad gave us the energy we needed to fish and podcast. We had "guest", giggles, guns and grass but no fish. The middle track is "Wet Cement" by Joe Gorgeous. In the second half we have epic giggles, podcast history is made and if you want to hear it urine luck and the ride home. You will want to stick around for the ride home as we discuss Susie's top 5 favorite local bass players, Hippy Bathday, Alex Jones and inter-dimensional beings. Fantastic time and much needed. The last track is by Prof Fuzz 63 is "Nudist Buddhist Judas Priest Fan"

BruceMagnus in Creamy Grimmel
Tuesday Mar 05, 2019
Tuesday Mar 05, 2019
BruceMagnus stopped by One Horn Studio to hang with Joe Tacke and myself. No Zachary Zanetich again this week. Happy Birthday Zach! BruceMagnus is Samuel Fatzinger (vocals, guitar) Billy Hildreth (drums) Aaron Richter (bass) and Camilo Grasales (guitar) Side note - I thought his name was Emilio and I refer to him as that throughout the show. My apologizes. BruceMagnus is from the mean streets of North Richland Hills and are chums with Josh and the Jet Noise. Being a new band they have played a handful of shows and released a really fun EP called High on the Mountain. The show starts off this week with the title track. Their sound has a Southern Rock groove with a Country twang mixed with a little WWF. We talk about the formation of the band and the recording of the new EP. We also talk about booking new shows as a new band with little to no connections. I was really curious about who or what the Menace is and we also find out who or what Bruce Magnus is. The middle track is a relatable track called "Crud". With no emails or Zach libs we jump into rando question with the band. These are always fun and we discovered creamy grimmel. These dudes were a total hoot. Check them out on all social media and streaming services. BruceMagusBand It was a pleasure to hang with these fellows and a total blast listening to their EP. I hope you do yourself the pleasure of checking them out.

You Will Never Understand ( The State of Soul) w/ Torn Up
Tuesday Feb 26, 2019
Tuesday Feb 26, 2019
This week we have a very special episode for you. Torry Evan Finley aka TornUp has just released a very real, moving, heartbreakingly incredible album. The conversation is honest and thorough and Torry is open and forthcoming with very hard topics including but not limited to the police, politics, racism, religion, violence and so forth. It is a hard episode to describe but we do get heavy into the album, the songs on the album, the stories from the songs and the topics the songs raise. We start the show off with the first track off of the album "The Pedestrian" The middle break is a track called "The Menace" and the closing track is "The Faith". The album is a must listen! To give you a better idea of the album I want to quote Torry from the bandcamp page.
"In a tight 40-minute run time, each song depicts a different black person's perspective within the prison-industrial complex and how it effects them politically, economically, socially, personally, or all of the above. The first and last three songs are six different depictions of one specific police encounter and the songs in between are a series of vignettes that provide scale to these socio-economic happenings. I don't personally, necessarily agree with all of these perspectives, but after experiencing what I have first hand, listening to countless stories from others, and doing my own research, I do believe they all come from a real place."
"Exploring several different Black perspectives, this album examines what is worth investing our hope in while it is under systemic attack. It's about people trying to find a way to fight oppression earnestly without being consumed by grief. It's a "State of the Union" for the Black community addressed with the thought kept in mind that we live in a very different country than our white American counterparts and that is simply not an opinion. " -TornUp
Torry is an amazing person, incredible artist/activist and I am more than honored to call him a friend. I thinks this is his best work to date and I am privileged to have him come on and share his art, his grief, his anger, his hope with us. I hope you listen and support local. Oh last thing. We did talk about Deborah Whitlock Peoples, her running for Mayor and her meet and greet at the Boiled Owl with Wrex and TornUp.

Ryker Hall Soon You'll be a Skeleton
Tuesday Feb 19, 2019
Tuesday Feb 19, 2019
Ryker Hall is a local singer songwriter and over the last year you may have seen him play at open mic's and songwriter showcases. He recorded a 4 song EP in Denton with a little help from friends in Denton bands. Soon you'll be a Skeleton is a really fun listen. With 4 songs and just under 12 minutes its a great way to start your day or add to a mix. The sound is part emo/post punk mixed with Americana if you had to classify it. The first song is Placeholder. It opens up the show and the EP. We ask Ryker about the album, the players and recording. We also learn about Rykers amazing ability to beat box and desire to sing in a hop hop song or possibly do some rhyming. He has a mix tape out there somewhere and a song with Juma that may be released soon. We also learned what it's like to be a radio DJ. Ryker was cool. Super fun and really interesting. The middle song we play is The Season. The second half we have no emails or Zach Libs but we do have more questions. "The whole show is questions!"- Joe Tacke The second half questions are more fun and random in nature and involves the whole room. The last song on the Ep and the song we close with is Roll Credits, Fade to Black. Listen to the end. There may or may not be an easter egg from Joe. Find the EP anywhere you get your digital music. Itunes, Spotify, Bandcamp ect.

Infrastructures- A House For Throwing Stones
Tuesday Feb 12, 2019
Tuesday Feb 12, 2019
This week I get to bring you Infrastructures and their new album A House For Throwing Stones. " This is a Progressive Rock concept piece that bounces around the realms of Art Rock to project the narrative! "-Aaron Payton
Infrastructures is a 5 piece and we have 3 of the members on tonight. Aaron Payton does vocal, guitar and bass, Jacob plays drums and Bobby Miller is on synths, vocals and piano. The show kicks off with the opening song from the album titled "Growth". After some introductions we talk a little of the history of the band. Infra started in 2010 with a small hiatus in 2014 and started working on this record in 2016/17. Listening to this album is like watching a fine art film. Its conceptual, dark, beautiful and hard to describe. From the Facebook page the band describes the album like this. "It's a Record submerged in emotional tides and nautical vibes. If this were a movie you would be watching ever frame through your fingers!" We talk about the writing and recording but we also talk about the narrative. I suggest picking up a physical copy so you can get the lyric sheet. The middle track has some interesting notes about it. Its called "Foster 1460" and this part of the narrative changes characters and takes a turn. In the second half of the show we have an email from Matt Thomas aka Robotuner and instead of Zach Libs we do more random questions with the band. There are some fantastic answers I hadn't thought of and really got a kick out of this part of the show. We end with "From the Wreckage". The narrative advances but we are far from the end. I hope we did the album justice and you give it listen. The concept is great and I think they nailed the execution. Check them out on all streaming services. Get physical copies from Dreamy Life Records and Tapes and also Growl in Arlington. You can also purchase a physical copy online at infrastructures.bandcamp.com

Josh and the Jet Noise are Alright
Tuesday Feb 05, 2019
Tuesday Feb 05, 2019
Josh and the Jet Noise are here this week with a brand new 7 song EP in hand and it's Alright! Josh Reed (Guitars vocals) is joined by his former Confounded bandmate Matt Thomas (bass and backing vocals) and keeping time is Chris Grucza. The album was recorded (produced, engineered and mixed) at Cloudland by our very own Joe Tacke and co-produced by Rebekah Elizabeth. Both also appear as special guest players on a couple of songs. The album kicks off with Darkness and the show kicks off with the same. Zach is out this week so we have no Zach notes so I am going by memory. We start the show talking about the Superbowl and Groundhog Day. Then we get into the making of the album with some behind the scene stories from the studio. The guys are really excited about this album and its really good. You can tell how much they love it by the interview and how much they enjoyed working with Joe. It was a really fun conversation and I really enjoyed hearing the story behind the middle track Deadly Affair. After the break we have questions from a Chik Fil A kids meal. Find out the boys favorite food smell, or favorite sound from a car horn or greatest sight to see everyday. Josh and the Jet Noise are playing Saturday February 9 at Lolas with Bruce Magnus Prof Fuzz and Mean Motor Scooter. This will be a really fun show so I hope to see you there. You can purchase hard copies of the EP or you can get them digitally wherever you get your tunes. The last song is a really fun one to end with. It's called Alright Alright Alright.

Tuesday Jan 29, 2019
This week we have a special show with 3 very special guest. We have Phil and Venice Rembold owners of Imagine Laser Works and Sheryl Kena Freedom (Robinson) who is a certified laser technician and a very dear friend of mine. Laser Acupuncture is mainly used to quit smoking with a 90 percent success rate, however it is used to quit other addictions, ailments, increase blood circulation and overall wellness. In this episode we talk about the ins and outs of that as well as some of the other services offered. It is an interesting episode about holistic healing, metaphysical healing, ancient healing and technological advances and the marriage of these things in western medicine. I also want to note that there is a music bed under the conversation this week and the music is from Katsuk's latest recording which is a guided meditation. However we play just the instrumental version. Its a cool CD and you should check it out. Back to the show.

This week we have a very special show for you. Susie Ramone, Zachary Zanetich and myself find ourselves lucky enough to be podcasting with comics from the back office at Mass before they perform at Laugh Your Mass Off. An event created by Brian Breckenridge and takes place every Sunday and Wednesday at Main at South Side. Before we sit and chat with Brian and headliner Alex Price (Indiana) and a couple of out of town locals (Tom Smith, Justin James) we hear the opening song, Paper Knife, from local favorites Sur Duda. We take a quick break halfway thru to hear Wrex do Bruce Wayne Flow and we close the show with Garage Barrage Too Many Office Parties. After the interview we stuck around and watched the show and it was so much fun. You have to go to one of these. Its a really, really good time.
